When the feature is enabled it will allow you to issue keyboard commands by pressing the buttons one after another, rather than at the same time. For example, if you wanted to use the copy function which is accessed by pressing the ‘Crtl’ and ‘C’ keys at the same time, Sticky Keys will allow you to activate this command by first pressing ‘Ctrl’, and then pressing ‘C’ after. This feature was introduced for those looking to avoid RSI (repetitive strain injury) or those with a physical disability. It does, however, cause some problems for those who make heavy use of the shift key (such as gamers) as that can activate the feature unintentionally.
How to turn Sticky Keys on or off
If you wish to turn the Sticky Keys feature on or off simply press the ‘Shift’ key five times in a row. This will result in the following window appearing Select Yes or No depending on your preference.
How to stop Sticky Keys activating
If the Sticky Keys activation message keeps popping up because you’re using the ‘Shift’ key repeatedly for another task, you can disable its keyboard short cut by doing the following
Type ‘Ease of Access Centre’ into the Windows Search tool at the bottom left and open it up
Click on ‘Make the keyboard easier to use’
Click on ‘Set up Sticky Keys’
Untick the box that reads ‘Turn on Sticky Keys when SHIFT is pressed five times’
